Srs/as,

Abcs,

So, you want to move to New Zealand?

For every Wellington based job vacancy Beyond Recruitment are trying to fill for our clients we will get up to 4 or more people applying who currently live overseas.

We understand why you might like to move here – Wellington is a great city and New Zealand is a fantastic country. Living conditions are good with excellent access to wildlife and nature, there is no political unrest and the economy is buoyant. Who wouldn’t want to live here?

For those of you who want to move here, this is our advice as professional recruiters.

Firstly, don’t apply for roles you don’t have the appropriate experience for. This sends the message that you are applying for any role regardless of the experience required just so you can get to New Zealand. It is not a professional way to go about your New Zealand job search.

Secondly, the least effective way to secure work is to apply for roles online with no mention of your plans to come to New Zealand. We frequently get emails from applicants saying that they are available for phone interviews and will move to New Zealand once they get a job offer. Although this makes sense to you (you want to have a role secured before you move yourself, your family and your things halfway across the world), it’s not viable.

Think of this from the point of view of the company. The whole hiring process, from reading CVs, to interviewing (2 or 3 times), through to getting references, doing technical testing and finally getting the offer together, is a very long and involved process involving a lot of different people. Most of the time, these people are extremely busy and this process is a big commitment in terms of time and money.

Investing their time and effort in interviewing an overseas applicant, going through the whole process, when there is no indication of commitment on your part in physically being here, other than you saying that you will is too much of a risk on their part. You not being here is a big indication that you are not 100% committed. You could easily decide not to move for lots of reasons – financial or family or your visa may not get approved. There is just too much risk for most companies to take, especially since there are a lot of highly educated and experienced candidates (both born here in New Zealand and immigrants) who are physically here. Consequently, the overseas-based applicant is just not as appealing.

Our advice on gaining immigration approval and getting a job offer in NZ:

•     Fly into New Zealand for at least 4 weeks on a visitor’s visa (or any NZ permit you may have acquired) to attend interviews – giving enough time to go to interviews and secure a job offer. You can then head back home to complete your notice period and the job offer will speed up the immigration process.

•     You could also tie up all loose ends and move to New Zealand with the intention to stay, you would come in on a visitor’s visa (or any NZ permit you may have acquired) and convert this to a work permit once you secure a job offer. It will take 1 to 2 weeks to then gain a work permit/visa. This could in turn lead to Permanent Residency.
•     We would assist you by looking into current opportunities for you a month before your arrival. Beyond Recruitment is New Zealand’s largest IT recruitment Agency. You will have access to our vast network of clients.
•     Make sure that you keep track of where your resume has been sent as our market is small and we have to avoid sending your resume out to clients that have already received your resume (either from another agency or directly).

Ótimas dicas mesmo. Faz todo o sentido eles darem preferência pra quem está fisicamente lá. Ou pelo menos está comprometido em ir.

Muito boa a iniciativa do post.

Valeu!
